If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’ll probably be drawn like me to Ripples on P&O Iona and Arvia at least once during your cruise. Located in the Grand Atrium on Deck 8 (midship), Ripples serves Snowflake Luxury Gelato, indulgent sundaes and Costa Coffee drinks which makes a great venue to a tempting treat on board. I tried it out – here’s everything you need to know before you order.

Is Ripples Included on P&O Iona or P&O Cruises Arvia?
No, Ripples is not included in your cruise fare. All gelato, sundaes, afternoon tea and drinks are charged separately, although some items are included depending on your drinks package if you’ve purchased one. That said, it’s a premium gelato experience rather than your standard ice cream counter.

Sundaes at Ripples
If you want something more indulgent, then the sundaes are something to behold.
Banoffee Sundae – £6.70
Banoffee gelato, fresh banana, dark chocolate pieces and sauce.
Knickerbocker Glory – £7.45
Vanilla and chocolate gelato with strawberry sorbet, fresh strawberries, whipped cream and strawberry sauce.
Oreo Sundae – £6.70
Oreo and vanilla gelato with caramel sauce, Oreo pieces, Smarties and cream.
These are generous portions and feel more like a dessert event than a quick ice cream stop.
Gelato Doughnut – £4.40
One of the more unusual items on the menu, this is a toasted brioche doughnut filled with your choice of gelato (chocolate, strawberry, vanilla or salted caramel). It’s warm, cold and indulgent all at once and very popular on sea days.
Snowflake’s Gelato Afternoon Tea
£14.35 per person
£24.70 per person with Champagne
Includes:
🍧 Mini gelato cones
🍧 Bite-sized gelato treats
🍧 Gelato macarons
🍧 Ice cream and meringue
🍧 Served with tea or Costa Coffee.
This is one of Ripples’ more unique offerings. It’s a fun twist on classic afternoon tea, and ideal if you’re celebrating something special. If you’re not one for the traditional Afternoon tea and want something different (and cooler on a hot day) this this is worth trying. It comes with a tea or coffee but, there’s so much included afternoon tea one is enough for two to share and is very popular. My tip is to just buy another cup of tea or coffee – but if you feel you want to elevate it a bit – then you can add a glass of champagne.
Costa Coffee & Drinks at Ripples
Ripples also serves Costa Coffee drinks, Hot chocolate, Iced coffees, Frappés and Blended fruit coolers. Teapigs tea and soft drinks are also available. Some drinks may be included depending if you have purchased a drink package and which P&O drinks package you have opted for.
Cruise planning tip: If you have children, budgeting around £4–£5 per visit per child is realistic.
Is Ripples Worth It on Iona and Arvia?
This really depends on what you’re comparing it to. Yes, you can get soft-serve ice cream elsewhere on board without paying extra, (in the Horizon Buffet and in the Main Restaurants) so you don’t need to visit Ripples. If you don’t want an ice cream parlour experience then Gelato is also served in Sundaes on deck 16 in the Sky Dome.
However, the quality of Snowflake gelato is much richer and creamier and there’s more variety, more indulgent flavours and opportunities for customisations. The presentation is better and the sundaes are more like a dessert. I found thatcompared to high-street gelato prices in the UK, the prices are reasonable for a captive audience on a cruise ship.
It’s a lovely treat in the Atrium and personally, I’d say Ripples is worth visiting at least once or during your cruise (perhaps twice if you have a sweet tooth like me).
Because it’s located midship in the Atrium on Deck 8, Ripples can get busy. I found the busiest time were during sea days in the afternoon. There is indoor seating, but they also do takeaway and there is also outdoor seating on the Promenade Deck with the entrance very nearby.
