If you’ve already looked through my full breakdown of Fred. Olsen drink prices, you’ll know that costs can vary quite a bit depending on what you like to drink. The big question is whether the drinks package actually represents good value?

That’s not always a straightforward answer, because it depends entirely on your own drinking habits, and how much time you’re going to be on ship vs in port. A couple of cocktails a day plus some wine with dinner can quickly add up, whereas lighter drinkers might find paying as you go works out cheaper. A port intensive itinerary means you might not be on the ship enough to take advantage of the package you’re already paid for. On certain fares Fred. Olsen includes wine at dinner and lunch so once again – think about your drinking habits when evaluating whether the package is worth it for you.

To make things easier, I’ve created this simple calculator. Just enter how many drinks you would typically have per day, adjust the length of your cruise, and it will estimate your total spend compared to the cost of the Fred. Olsen Premium Drinks Package.

As you can see, whether the Fred. Olsen drinks package is worth it really comes down to how you personally cruise.

For some, especially those who enjoy cocktails, wine and a few drinks throughout the day, the package can offer solid value and the convenience of not worrying about the bill. For others, particularly lighter drinkers or those who mainly stick to soft drinks, paying as you go may be the better option.
