Is a P&O Cruises drinks package worth it?

For some cruisers, a drinks package offers peace of mind and predictable spending. For others, especially lighter drinkers paying as you go can work out significantly cheaper. This P&O Cruises drinks calculator is designed to help you see the difference clearly, using your own preferences rather than averages.

What the P&O Cruises drinks calculator does

The calculator is designed to answer one key question: Is a P&O Cruises drinks package worth it for you? To do that, it compares:

The estimated pay-as-you-go cost of drinks onboard
✅The total cost of the selected drinks package
✅Any applicable booking or loyalty discounts
✅The overall saving (or extra cost) of choosing a package

Importantly, all figures shown are the total cost for all adults sharing the cabin, not per person. This reflects P&O Cruises’ policy that all adults in the same cabin must purchase the same drinks package.

How to use the P&O Cruises drinks calculator

Using the calculator is straightforward and only takes a minute or two.

  1. Select the number of nights sailing: Drinks packages are only available on cruises of five nights or more. The calculator starts at five nights and automatically adjusts pricing for longer cruises, where package rates may change.
  2. Choose the number of adults in the cabin: You can select between one and six adults. The calculator then applies the cost across the entire cabin, so you’re seeing the true total cost, not just an individual estimate.
  3. Choose a drinks package (or no package). You can compare: No drinks package, Classic Drinks Package, Deluxe Drinks Package, Refresh Drinks Package and Alcohol-Free Drinks Package. If you choose Refresh or Alcohol-Free, the calculator automatically removes some drink inputs, as these packages exclude some options.
  4. Select when you’ll buy the drinks package: Drinks package prices vary depending on when you purchase them: Purchased on board, Booked in advance after booking, or Purchased at the time of booking. The calculator reflects current P&O Cruises rules, including the fact that the 20% discount at the time of booking only applies to the Classic Drinks Package. This option is automatically disabled for other packages to avoid confusion.
  5. Add your Peninsular Club discount: If you’re a Peninsular Club member, you can select your tier. The calculator applies this discount to: Pay-as-you-go drinks and the Drinks packages. This helps if you are a returning P&O guests to get a more accurate comparison.
  6. Enter your average daily drinks: Finally, you can adjust how many drinks you’d typically have per person, per day. Categories include: Cocktails, wine, beer, spirits and prosecco Non-alcoholic drinks and mocktails Coffee, tea and soft drinks. The prices used are based on current onboard pricing (minimum cost per drink), making the pay-as-you-go estimate as realistic as possible.

Understanding the results

Once you’ve entered your details, the P&O Cruises drinks calculator automatically shows:

Total pay-as-you-go cost (with discounts applied)
✅ Total drinks package cost (with the correct pricing and discounts)
✅ The difference between the two

If the saving is shown in green, the drinks package would save you money.
If the figure appears in red, paying as you go would be the cheaper option based on your inputs

Important things to keep in mind

All figures are estimates, not guarantees. Alcoholic drinks are subject to P&O Cruises’ 15-drink-per-day limit per person. Children can purchase the Refresh package independently, but this calculator focuses on adult cabins, as required for alcohol-inclusive packages. The calculator is designed to inform your decision, not to encourage unnecessary spending
